How the Amex credit works

The $300 statement credit
Amex Platinum refunds up to $300 every six months — $600 a year — on prepaid hotel stays booked through Amex Travel's FHR or THC. The two programs share one credit pool. Book a room near $300 and the statement credit makes it essentially free.
Fine Hotels + Resorts (FHR)
No minimum nights, so a single great night can be nearly free. Every FHR stay also adds breakfast for two, a $100–$200 on-property credit, room upgrade when available, guaranteed 4pm late checkout, and noon early check-in — stacked on top of the statement credit.
The Hotel Collection (THC)
Two-night minimum. Adds a $100 experience credit and late checkout, from the same $300 credit pool as FHR — a wider set of hotels at the cost of needing two nights.
Why a SHORT stay
The statement credit is capped at $300 a half. Spend it on a $900 suite and it barely dents the bill; spend it where one night (FHR) or two nights (THC) runs close to $300 and you capture the whole credit. That's the sweet spot this board finds.
